Nike x AMBUSH: How Yoon Ahn Redefines Sports Apparel and Footwear
What does it mean to be a fan of football, fashion, and femininity? How can one express their identity, beliefs, and personal style through sport-inspired apparel and footwear? These are some of the questions that AMBUSH® designer and Nike collaborator Yoon Ahn explores in her new Nike x AMBUSH project. As a result, the latest collection blends the worlds of sport, nightlife, and culture in a style-first approach.
A Multiverse of Possibilities
Ahn is no stranger to creating collections that challenge the boundaries of gender, genre, and geography. Her previous Nike x AMBUSH collections have drawn inspiration from sources as diverse as motocross, basketball, and Tokyo’s street culture. For this reason, Ahn taps into the global phenomenon of football and its passionate fan base, offering a range of pieces that can be worn by anyone, anywhere and anytime.
A Style-First Approach to Sport Apparel
The Nike x AMBUSH collection features a unisex jersey top that reimagines the classic football jersey with a twist. The top has a cropped fit, a mock neck, and an asymmetrical hem, giving it a sleek and modern look. The top also features the AMBUSH logo on the chest, the Nike Swoosh on the sleeve, and the number 34 on the back, paying homage to Ahn’s favorite player.
The collection also includes a Nike x AMBUSH Air More Uptempo Low. The sneaker combines the iconic silhouette of the Air More Uptempo with a luxe leather upper, original graffiti-inspired branding and a subversive aesthetic. The sneaker comes in a beige colorway with the classic “Air” lettering in yellow, and black accents. The AMBUSH logo on the tongue and back sole adds the final touch.
A metallic-silver football completes the collection. Ahn took the traditional ball shape and elevated it with an exaggerated colorway and a durable design. The ball is adorned with the AMBUSH logo and the Nike Swoosh, making it a statement piece for any football fan.
A Conversation Starter
The Nike x AMBUSH collection is more than just a collection of products, it’s a conversation starter. It invites people to explore their own interpretations of femininity, fashion, and football fandom. It also celebrates the individuality, diversity, and community that make football such a rich and vibrant culture.
“Fashion is an incredibly powerful form of self-expression. It can be used to express identity, beliefs, and personal style,” says Ahn. “This collection has diverse elements that you can dress up and down to express masculine and femme energy through the eye of sport. I’m excited to see how people will create their own unique style interpretations with the pieces.”
The Nike x AMBUSH collection will be available on August 4 on Ambush, SNKRS and at selected Nike retail stores.
