A Classic Rebuilt for Skateboarding
At its core, the model retains the low-top aesthetic that made the original a cultural staple. However, Nike SB has carefully engineered the shoe for skateboarding demands. The addition of an Air unit in the heel enhances impact protection, while a reduced midsole height improves board feel—two essential factors for serious skaters.

Moreover, the outsole features a modified herringbone tread pattern. This adjustment increases grip and flexibility, allowing for more precise control during technical movements. As a result, the shoe delivers both responsiveness and durability in high-impact situations.
Precision Fit Meets Performance Control
Comfort and lockdown also take priority. A reinforced padded tongue works alongside internal sit straps and collar fit pods to secure the foot, whether the shoe is worn laced or unlaced. In addition, the revised toe profile and stitch-turned seams improve flick and board control, ensuring consistency across sessions.

These updates didn’t happen in isolation. Instead, they were shaped by direct feedback from the Nike SB team. Their insights helped refine early prototypes into a model that feels broken-in straight out of the box, without sacrificing structure or support.
Honoring an Icon While Pushing Forward
As Mau Rosillo from Nike’s Color Design team explains: “We had to find the right balance between delivering for skateboarders and honoring an icon. The design team considered every performance detail — the midsole, the outsole, the treads and the upper — and packaged it into the Air Force 1. If we would’ve lost one or the other, we wouldn’t be here.”
Since its founding in 2002, Nike SB has consistently bridged performance innovation with skate culture authenticity. Models like the Nike SB Dunk have already cemented that legacy, offering durability and enhanced board feel tailored to skating.
Originally introduced in 1982, the Nike Air Force 1 revolutionized footwear as the first basketball shoe with Nike Air technology. Decades later, its influence remains unmatched across sport and streetwear.
