The Nike x Jacquemus Moon Shoe returns with three striking new colorways, continuing the collaboration between Nike and French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus. This updated release builds on the silhouette’s 2025 debut while expanding its aesthetic through refined tones of brown, Sail, and pale pink.
Originally inspired by Bill Bowerman’s legendary hand-built Moon Shoe, the modern reinterpretation merges Nike’s historic running DNA with Jacquemus’ minimalist fashion sensibility. As a result, the sneaker delivers a sleek, low-profile shape that feels equally rooted in sport and high fashion.
The new versions maintain the distinctive ruched nylon upper, which adds texture and movement to the design. Meanwhile, a Nike Grind outsole reinforces the shoe’s sustainability angle while preserving the performance-driven heritage that shaped the original concept.
From 1972 Track Innovation to Modern Ballet Aesthetic
The story behind the Moon Shoe stretches back to the early 1970s. Bowerman created the original prototype while experimenting with traction solutions for runners preparing for the 1972 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials. Using his wife’s waffle iron, he poured rubber into the mold to produce a revolutionary sole pattern that improved grip without increasing weight.
Although the original Moon Shoe never officially reached retail, its groundbreaking waffle outsole technology later influenced models like the Oregon Waffle and the Waffle Trainer, which helped shape Nike’s early success.
Jacquemus’ reinterpretation honors that heritage while shifting the silhouette into a fashion-forward direction. The contemporary design introduces a modern ballet-inspired aesthetic, creating a streamlined “torpedo” shape that feels both delicate and athletic.
Jacquemus’ Vision and the Next Chapter
For Simon Porte Jacquemus, the project began with a visit to the Nike archives several years ago. There, he discovered the Moon Shoe and immediately saw the potential to reinterpret it for a new generation.
He explained that the pale pink colorway reflects the Jacquemus design DNA, describing it as a sensual yet naive tone that adds softness and intimacy to the silhouette. This thoughtful palette transforms a historic racing shoe into a statement piece for modern wardrobes.
The collaboration is now the fourth footwear project between Nike and Jacquemus, following earlier releases like the Air Max 1, J Force 1, and Air Humara.
Campaign Spotlight and Release Details
To celebrate the new chapter, the campaign features visionary artist Solange Knowles, whose creative identity mirrors the collaboration’s blend of culture, fashion, and artistic expression.
The Nike x Jacquemus Moon Shoe colorways are currently available through Jacquemus retail and jacquemus.com. Meanwhile, the brown and Sail versions will launch on March 16 via SNKRS and select Nike retail locations, including NikeLab stores.
