Nike Air Lab at Dropcity Milan arrives during Design Week 2026, introducing an innovative space where creativity, design and Air technology collide.

Nike Air Lab at Dropcity Milan Experience

At Milan Design Week 2026, Nike partners with Dropcity to present NikeAir_Lab, a one-week activation that blends design, sport and experimentation. Located at Via Sammartini 72 in Milan, the experience gives visitors direct access to the evolution of Nike Air.
Running from April 20 to April 26, Nike Air Lab at Dropcity Milan offers more than a traditional exhibition. It creates an interactive environment where ideas move from concept to tangible form.

Inside Nike Air Lab

The core of Nike Air Lab is built around eight specialized tool stations. Each explores air as a design medium, from shaping and forming to compression and cooling. Visitors can engage with robotic arms, thermoforming machines and pneumatic systems.

This hands-on approach reflects Nike’s design philosophy. As Golnaz Armin explains, prototyping remains essential for testing, refining and evolving ideas in real time.
Across the lab, nearly 100 unseen prototypes highlight innovations like Air Liquid Max, FlyWeb, Radical AirFlow and Therma-FIT Air Milano, offering a clear view into the brand’s future direction.

Nike Air Lab Archives and Cultural Layer

The experience unfolds through a series of tunnels, adding depth beyond pure innovation. The Air Library and Air Archives introduce insights from athletes and creatives, including Arianna Fontana and Hiroshi Fujiwara.
Historic elements play a key role. Early experiments by Frank Rudy appear alongside milestones like the Alphafly NEXT% and Faith Kipyegon’s Breaking4 speed suit. This connection between past and present reinforces the evolution of Nike Air.

Nike Air Lab at Dropcity Milan and the Future of Dropcity

After Design Week, Nike Air Lab transitions into a permanent installation within Dropcity. Founded by Andrea Caputo, the center is set to become one of Europe’s largest hubs for architecture and design.
With more than 300 workstations and production facilities, Dropcity aims to support emerging creatives while maintaining strong ties to the global design community.

As César García notes, the initiative reinforces Milan’s position as a global creative capital while highlighting Nike’s continued investment in collaborative innovation.

Blending advanced tools, archival storytelling and hands-on experimentation, Air Lab sets a new benchmark for how brands and creative institutions can build meaningful, lasting spaces.
