Nike ACG has unveiled the ACG Picklejus trail runner, a new performance shoe designed for long-distance mountain running. Combining dual-density ZoomX cushioning, a trail-tuned Flyknit upper and the brand’s new GOATEK traction platform, the silhouette aims to balance uphill efficiency with downhill protection. It is scheduled to arrive in late 2027.

Designed for Demanding Mountain Terrain

The ACG Picklejus trail runner was developed around the challenges of long-distance races in the Mont Blanc region. Nike’s research focused on three key demands: maintaining efficiency during extended climbs, reducing the impact of technical descents and providing confidence across changing terrain.

The project involved three years of conversations with trail athletes, 10 research studies and 20 prototypes tested by more than 100 athletes. Moreover, Picklejus is the first ACG footwear innovation developed through the Nike Sport Research Lab.

Dual-Density ZoomX Underfoot

At the heart of the shoe is Nike’s first co-molded, dual-density supercritical foam platform designed specifically for trail running. The system combines a soft central ZoomX core with a firmer perimeter stability ring.

As a result, the central foam is designed to deliver cushioning, load protection and efficiency, while the firmer perimeter adds support, stability and durability. The construction aims to provide a smoother transition between uphill propulsion and downhill protection without forcing runners to choose one over the other.

Flyknit Upper With a Secure Fit

The trail-tuned Flyknit upper features containment cables that adapt to the foot, creating a secure fit while allowing natural movement across uneven terrain. Meanwhile, hydrophobic yarns help repel water and reduce water weight when conditions become wet and muddy.

A supportive, gaiter-inspired cuff completes the design. It provides a locked-in feel and helps prevent debris from entering the shoe during long mountain efforts.

GOATEK Brings All-Condition Grip

The new GOATEK outsole is the defining innovation of Picklejus. Developed to address the demands of wet rock, loose dirt, steep climbs and technical descents, the proprietary traction platform is designed to maintain grip and control across unpredictable mountain surfaces.

According to Nike, GOATEK delivers a 45% increase in wet traction and 25% greater abrasion resistance compared with the company’s previous all-terrain outsoles. The platform has also undergone five rounds of long-term wear testing, with athletes logging more than 18,000 test miles across rugged mountain terrain.

Name and Release Details

The name Picklejus references the near-mythical substance rooted in endurance-running culture and associated with the fight against muscle cramps. It reflects the shoe’s focus on resilience during demanding ultra-distance efforts.

The Nike ACG Picklejus will be available in late 2027 through nike.com and select retail locations. Pricing and specific colorways have not yet been announced.
