Reimagining the Historic Moon Shoe
Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman designed the Moon Shoe in 1972 to give athletes lightweight traction with his groundbreaking waffle sole. A small batch debuted at the U.S. Olympic Trials, and its DNA soon fueled Nike’s first commercial hits, including the Oregon Waffle and Waffle Trainer. Now, for the first time, French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus reinterprets the Moon Shoe for a new audience.

A Modern Ballet Aesthetic Meets Sport Heritage
Today’s Nike x Jacquemus Moon Shoe blends racing origins with Parisian elegance. The sneaker uses a ruched nylon upper, a leather Swoosh, a leather heel counter, and a Nike Grind outsole. Together, these elements create a low-to-the-ground torpedo shape that balances speed and sophistication.
“Three years ago, when I visited the Nike archives, I first came across the historic Moon Shoe,” Jacquemus explains. “I saw a minimal running shoe that was both timeless and modern. I knew it was an opportunity to reshape it in the Jacquemus way.”
Fourth Footwear Collaboration Between Nike and Jacquemus
This Moon Shoe marks the fourth footwear partnership between Nike and Jacquemus. Earlier projects included the Air Max 1, J Force 1, and Air Humara. However, this release carries even greater cultural weight. It first appeared during Jacquemus’ Spring 2025 runway show in Paris, building anticipation long before its commercial debut.

A Trio of Distinct Colorways
The Moon Shoe will release in three styles: an Alabaster edition exclusive to Jacquemus, plus Off Noir and University Red. Each pair arrives in co-branded packaging that references Nike’s early years as Blue Ribbon Sports. As a result, the shoe connects modern fashion with Nike’s heritage of innovation.
