CLOT Stan Smith Espadrille Redefines Heritage

The CLOT Stan Smith Espadrille redefines heritage by blending adidas Originals tradition with Edison Chen’s rebellious design vision.

A Subversive Take on Tradition

As part of their latest joint effort, adidas Originals and CLOT by Edison Chen reimagine archival icons through the eyes of contemporary streetwear. Leading the collection is the Stan Smith Espadrille, a silhouette that rethinks the classic tennis model with seasonal textures and unexpected design codes.

By replacing the traditional cupsole with an espadrille-style sole, Edison Chen breaks the boundaries between elegance and irreverence. This move channels his signature East-meets-West aesthetic without relying on clichéd motifs. Instead, material stories and subtle craftsmanship speak louder than symbols.

Two Bold Versions of One Icon

The sneaker arrives in two colorways: a crisp white version with a deconstructed upper and detailed embroidery, and a black jute-inspired edition crafted to evoke hand-dyed natural fibers—without the instability. The black pair also introduces a chenille mustache heel detail, adding a rich contrast in both touch and tone. Both feature dual branding and an intentional blend of street and classic tennis energy.

Club Culture Meets Court Style

Beyond footwear, the collection’s apparel nods to vintage varsity aesthetics. Think crocheted vests, striped polos with fringe shorts, and camp shirts layered with lace embroidery. The color palette—forest green, cream, chocolate, and touches of maroon and gold—balances formality with freedom.

The campaign captures this contradiction visually, with Stan Smith, Edison Chen, and stars like Hoyeon and Blondey playing against country club norms in a surreal setting that mirrors the creative rebellion of the collection.

Looking Ahead: Redefining Originals

“The Stan Smith is a silhouette I wanted to explore from the very beginning,” said Edison Chen. “Integrating an espadrille sole…opened up new creative possibilities that reflect the spirit of both tradition and rebellion.”

This release is another bold move in the evolving relationship between CLOT and adidas, one that continually challenges the status quo by merging heritage sportswear with elevated street sensibilities.

The collection drops July 12, 2025, via the CONFIRMED app and select retailers.
