adidas is revolutionizing Formula 1 performance with its latest CLIMACOOL System. This innovative solution helps drivers manage extreme heat. As an Official Team Partner of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, adidas introduces a cutting-edge insulative Jacket and Cooling Vest. These products are designed to maximize temperature regulation before races. Starting in Melbourne, George Russell and Kimi Antonelli will use the system from the first race of the 2025 F1 season.

Maximizing Performance with Cooling Innovation
Extreme temperatures inside an F1 car can reach 60 degrees Celsius, causing drivers to lose up to 4.2kg of sweat during races. Therefore, the crucial 20-minute window before the race start is critical. During this time, keeping drivers at their optimal temperature is essential. Traditionally, cooling vests or ice vests have been used, but adidas has taken this concept further with the CLIMACOOL System.

Developed with INUTEQ, the CLIMACOOL Jacket integrates cooling agents, insulative materials, and built-in fans. As a result, this system enhances cooling beyond what standalone vests can achieve. In lab tests, the jacket and vest combination nearly doubled the impact of traditional methods. These reductions significantly lower both skin and core temperature. Research also shows that these temperature reductions improve cognitive function, decision-making, and endurance. Consequently, this can potentially improve time to fatigue by up to 25%.

George Russell and Kimi Antonelli Put the System to the Test
The adidas Innovation Lab first worked with Kimi Antonelli before both drivers tested the CLIMACOOL System during pre-season trials in Bahrain. As the F1 season progresses, they will use the technology in races where heat management is particularly important. Furthermore, continuous feedback from the drivers and their teams will help refine the system for maximum performance gains.
Alasdhair Willis, Chief Creative Officer of adidas, highlighted the brand’s commitment to motorsport innovation:
“When we returned to motorsport, we wanted to see how we could bring true performance benefits to the teams. Our CLIMACOOL System is the first example of how we will bring innovation into the sport. We are challenging ourselves to deliver more impact, at greater speed, and products tuned to the specific needs of more sports. We will create the very best for the drivers.”

George Russell emphasized the system’s benefits: “Heat management is a key topic in F1. In hot races, it is important to maintain a consistent and optimized core body temperature in the car. When I first tried the adidas CLIMACOOL System, I knew it would be something I’d want to include in my race day package. The challenging conditions bring an extra element to racing. I’m confident this will help improve my performance.”
A New Era for CLIMACOOL Technology
The CLIMACOOL System is the second major addition to adidas’ reintroduced CLIMACOOL range. Following last year’s launch of an innovative CLIMACOOL shoe, the system continues to advance. Originally introduced in 2002, CLIMACOOL changed sportswear by integrating advanced cooling technologies based on athlete testing. adidas is now expanding the line, bringing next-generation cooling solutions to elite athletes.

Kimi Antonelli shared his experience: “In very hot and humid races, mitigating the rise in body temperature is key to performing at our best in the car. When I tested the adidas CLIMACOOL System, I was really impressed with the impact. Clearly, there is a benefit for us as drivers, and I’m looking forward to experiencing that during the season.”

Earlier this year, adidas reaffirmed its commitment to motorsport by entering a multi-year partnership with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team. This collaboration unites two icons dedicated to high-performance innovation, leveraging adidas’ 75-year legacy in athlete support to help drive success on the track.
