Wales Bonner Reimagines adidas Classics with a Jamaican Twist
If you are a fan of adidas Originals and Wales Bonner, you will be delighted to know that they have teamed up once again for a stunning Spring/Summer 2023 collection. Inspired by the Caribbean and Jamaica in particular, the collection celebrates the rich cultural heritage and style of the island nation.
The collection features a range of unisex pieces that combine vintage aesthetics with modern materials and colors. You will find classic tracksuits, anoraks, shorts, t-shirts, and more, all with a distinctive Wales Bonner touch. In detail, the color palette is vibrant and refreshing, with shades of teal, silver, yellow, and pink. The collection also pays tribute to some iconic Jamaican garments, such as the Harrington jacket and the flared trousers.
For the footwear, Wales Bonner has reworked two of adidas’ most beloved models: the Samba and the SL72. The WB Samba comes in two versions. One with a nubuck upper and leather stripes, and another with a silver leather upper and crochet stripes. Additionally, the WB SL72 Knit features a knitted upper and comes in two colorways that nod to Jamaican culture.
Jamaican influences
The new collection by Wales Bonner is a tribute to the culture and heritage of Jamaica, the homeland of the designer’s father. The collection features vibrant colors, patterns, and textures that reflect the island’s rich history and diversity. With this in mind, the campaign was shot by Jalan and Jibril Durimel. The talented photography and directorial duo captures the essence of Jamaica through stunning portraits and landscapes. The Durimel brothers, who were born in Paris and raised in Miami, have a unique perspective on black identity and beauty that informs their work. Also, they collaborated with stylist Tom Guinness, a longtime friend of Wales Bonner, to create a visual story that celebrates the people, the place, and the home of Jamaica.
