Nike and Bode Rec. have redefined sport heritage with a fresh take on the Astrograbber. Their latest campaign, featuring Ja’Marr Chase, introduces two bold new colorways of the classic silhouette. This campaign highlights the Astrograbber’s lasting impact, making it a contemporary sportswear staple.

Honoring the Astrograbber’s Legacy in Sport and Style

The campaign, shot in New Orleans, celebrates the long-lasting influence of the Nike and Bode Rec. Astrograbber. First introduced in 1974, the shoe’s football roots now blend seamlessly with modern lifestyle fashion. Chase, a Nike athlete, brings this fusion to life. His style mixes nostalgia with cutting-edge sportswear aesthetics.

“Bode Rec. is a line devoted to the history and evolution of athletic apparel,” says Emily Adams Bode Aujla, founder and designer of Bode. “A lot of my inspiration for the restyled Astrograbber and new campaign comes from stories I learned at Nike World Headquarters. I was especially moved by the stories of Nike employee No. 1 Jeff Johnson and Bill Bowerman. Bowerman created Nike’s famous waffle sole using his wife’s waffle iron, showing the handcrafted elements of early Nike footwear.”

New Astrograbber Colorways with Vintage Influence

The Nike and Bode Rec. Astrograbber debuts in two fresh designs. Both colorways reflect the shoe’s enduring appeal. The black version, crafted from woven textile, gives a versatile sport-style aesthetic. Meanwhile, the green leather version draws inspiration from a pair of Bill Bowerman’s hand-dyed waffle joggers, discovered by Bode Aujla at the Department of Nike Archives.

Both styles feature metallic gold shoelace charms. They come in exclusive co-branded packaging, highlighting the collaboration’s focus on craftsmanship and storytelling.

“Working with Nike to reimagine the Astrograbber has been an incredible opportunity,” says Bode Aujla. “Nike is such a historic American brand, and it truly embodies the inspiration behind Bode Rec. Like Nike, I believe sport and recreation are vital to our growth. This philosophy shines through in our new colorways and campaign.”

A Campaign Rooted in Nike and Bode Rec.’s Aesthetic

Captured by Eduardo Cerruti and Stephanie Draime, the campaign incorporates antique pieces sourced by Bode Aujla in Tokyo. This creative fusion bridges the past and present, reinforcing the Astrograbber’s timeless appeal.

“The new colorways are timeless and easy to wear,” says Ja’Marr Chase. “They give the next generation new ways to incorporate vintage style. Nike and Bode Rec. nailed it with their first collection last year. These colorways take their partnership to the next level.”

Nike and Bode Rec. Astrograbber Release Information

The green Astrograbber drops on March 14 at bode.com, Bode retail locations in Los Angeles and New York City, and the new Bode boutique in Paris. The black colorway releases on March 21 via SNKRS and at select Nike and Bode Rec. retail partners.
