The 237 is a tribute to signature New Balance shoes from the 1970s and represents the next evolution of retro-modern footwear design, a versatile shoe with even greater wearability that nods to the past but belongs to the now.
The New Balance 237 brings a new design that is rooted in the brand’s storied running styles. The outsole design is derived from the original Comp 100, yet the dimensions have been scaled up to add interest. The upper is constructed from classic 1970’s combinations of suede and nylon. The colors are bright and vibrant, creating familiar blockings with an easy wear aesthetic. The oversized paneling is shifted, offering an asymmetry that adds a new and fresh feel.
“The design of the 237 consists of details from retro running models in our archive and twists them creating a trend-forward aesthetic,” said Charlotte Lee, New Balance 237 designer. “The timeless design of the 237 has a prominent heritage 70’s design visual while still delivering a versatile model that can be worn with anything.”
The stitched and oversized N logo further nods to the 327 and creates a sense of nostalgia. Additional styles will be released throughout 2021 in a mix of colorways.
