How the New Slipstream BBall Celebrates PUMA’s ’80s Heritage
The PUMA Slipstream BBall is a new low-top version of the iconic basketball shoe that debuted in 1987. The shoe combines the classic elements of the original Slipstream with modern design and materials, creating a sleek and stylish silhouette that stands out on and off the court.

The shoe features a white leather upper with green accents, and a distinctive Formstrip that extends beyond the shoe’s profile. Moreover, the heel has been redesigned with a futuristic look, and the upper has cut-outs that reveal contrasting colors underneath. Finally, the tongue has a special badge that celebrates over 30 years of PUMA basketball heritage.
Quentin De Briey is responsible for the amazing editorial that captures the vibrant tones of the PUMA Slipstream BBall. With this in mind, he used the sunny vibes and street courts of the West Coast as a backdrop, he showcases the shoe’s versatility and appeal.
The PUMA Slipstream was originally a high-top basketball shoe that was engineered for serious players. It first came out in 1987 as a successor to the SKY LX. It was known for its innovative material combinations, such as faux snakeskin, leather, and faux fur. As a result, in 2002, the Slipstream was reintroduced in Japan with retro models like the Slipstream Snake and Slipstream Beast, which were popular for their eye-catching designs. During 2022, PUMA celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Slipstream with a remastered version of the original shoe. Additionally, Puma featured the Slipstream in all major collabs of that year such as the ones with Vogue, Coca-Cola, and MCM.
The PUMA Slipstream BBall will be available from June 1, 2023 at PUMA flagship stores, PUMA.com, and selected retailers.
