BornxRaised x Nike SB Dunk Low: A Tribute to LA Culture

If you are a fan of skateboarding and streetwear, you might have heard of BornxRaised, a Los Angeles-based brand that celebrates the authentic and diverse culture of the city. Bornxraised was founded by Chris “Spanto” Printup, who was born and raised in Venice. The brand aims to preserve and honor the history and identity of LA’s communities. Especially those that are being gentrified and erased.

One of the ways that BornxRaised expresses its vision is through collaborations with other brands that share its values and aesthetics. For example, the latest one with Nike, features a special edition of the SB Dunk Low, one of the most iconic and popular skate shoes of all time.

How BORNXRAISED and Nike SB celebrate LA culture with the Dunk Low

The BornxRaised x Nike SB Dunk Low is more than just a sneaker. It is a statement of loyalty, pride, and resilience. A tribute to the people who live and breathe LA culture, who skate on its streets, who listen to its music, who play on its courts. As a matter of fact, it is a reminder of where they came from, and where they are going.

For this reason, the design of the shoe reflects this message in every detail. The colorway is inspired by Spanto’s home turf of Venice, with a white leather base and blue nubuck overlays. Moreover, the perforations on the toe box are replaced by floral patterns, representing the beauty and diversity of LA’s flora and fauna. Also, the Swooshes on the sides are iridescent, changing colors depending on the angle and lighting, symbolizing the dynamic and vibrant nature of LA’s culture.

“One Block at a Time”

The shoe also features several branding elements that highlight the collaboration and its meaning. The tongue tag has an embroidered BornxRaised logo, along with the phrase “One Block At a Time”, which is also repeated on the insole. This slogan reflects the brand’s mission to protect and preserve LA’s culture, one neighborhood at a time. Additionally, the heel tab has a holographic logo that combines BornxRaised’s signature B with Nike’s Swoosh, creating a unique fusion of both identities. The heel counter has an embossed “ON THE TURF”, which is also printed on the underside of the tongue. This phrase is a nod to Spanto’s roots in Venice Beach, where he grew up.
