What’s Under the Silk? The CLOT X FRAGMENT DESIGN X NIKE DUNK Revealed
To commemorate CLOT’s 20th anniversary, its Founder and Creative Director Edison Chen has joined forces with his longtime friend and collaborator Hiroshi Fujiwara from Fragment Design to create a new collaboration sneaker with Nike: the CLOT X FRAGMENT DESIGN X NIKE DUNK.
Inspiration
This sneaker draws inspiration from Hiroshi Fujiwara’s favorite CLOT shoe of the past two decades. The CLOT x Nike Silk Air Force 1, also known as the “White Silk” from 2018. The CLOT X FRAGMENT DESIGN X NIKE DUNK features an all-white silk upper with CLOT’s signature Silk Royale pattern. The black tongue, lace stay, and heel tab provide a contrast. The sole is opaque for a sleek look, and the insole bears the CLOT20 logo to mark this special occasion. The shoe also comes with black and blue laces for different styling options.
One of the most innovative aspects of this sneaker is the removable top layer of the upper, which reveals hidden details underneath. This concept, which originated with the ‘1World’ project in 2009, reflects CLOT’s philosophy of going beyond the surface and discovering deeper layers of meaning.
Edison Chen and Hiroshi Fujiwara have a long history of working together on various projects, but they share more than just a professional bond. They are also good friends who enjoy spending time together outside of work.
“Our conversations rarely revolve around work. Most of the projects that come from me and Hiroshi, they’re very organic. We trust each other enough that we have a level of standard, and it just moves,” Chen said.
“It’s never really a collaboration, it’s a conversation,” Fujiwara added. “We don’t have any middle person, even when we do Nike. Just me and him, that’s really easy.”
