A Shoe Designed for Breakers
Breakers are cultural trendsetters, merging art and movement into a universal language. This summer, Nike celebrates their uncompromised style with a new footwear and apparel collection. At the heart of this collection is the Nike Jam, the first shoe crafted specifically for breakers. These athletes have long favored Nike sneakers, and now, they have a shoe designed just for their unique needs. Complementing the Jam is a range of Nike Sportswear apparel, tailored for enhanced protection and mobility, designed by the renowned artist Futura.
Innovation Meets Style
The Nike Jam is the result of six years of innovation and testing at the Nike Sport Research Lab. Breakers at all levels contributed insights, ensuring the Jam meets their specific needs. This shoe maximizes performance on various surfaces, from smooth competition floors to rough concrete. With a foam drop-in midsole for cushioning and a rubber cupsole for a close-to-ground feel, the Jam enhances breakers’ abilities. “The Jam is the type of shoe I’d wear any time to break,” says Nike athlete Logan “Logistx” Edra. The upside-down Swoosh is a standout feature, reflecting the unique moves of breakers.
A Nod to Hip-Hop Heritage
Nike designers packaged these performance benefits into a stylish silhouette that honors the roots of breaking. The Jam’s black and gum colorway pays homage to the equipment used by hip-hop DJs and MCs. A tan and black version references the cardboard breakers use for protection. A third colorway, in collaboration with Futura, reimagines his iconic 1980 Break Train piece. Futura expresses his pride in the collaboration, highlighting the Jam as a brand-new model designed for both performance and comfort.
A Comprehensive Collection
The commitment to serving athletes extends beyond the Jam to the entire apparel collection. This includes federation kits for the USA, Korea, and Japan, as well as various tops, bottoms, and accessories. The design aims to unite athletes globally, with a quote tucked inside most pieces: “connecting souls across the world who move with the rhythm.” Durability and mobility are key, with features like a second fabric layer in high-wear areas and lengthened sleeves and pant legs. Nike Dri-FIT ADV technology ensures athletes stay dry and cool.
The Nike Jam and breaking apparel collection will be available globally from July 16 at nike.com and select retail stores, with federation kits launching August 1. The exclusive Nike Jam Futura colorway is set for release in Fall 2024. This collection is a testament to Nike’s dedication to innovation and style, designed with the athletes’ needs at its core.
