Bad Bunny & Lionel Messi Team Up for New adidas Collection
Music and soccer come together in a groundbreaking collaboration as adidas Originals unites two global icons—Bad Bunny and Lionel Messi. Launching on October 26, the Bad Bunny & Messi Collection celebrates the connection between music and sport, uniting fans worldwide. This unique collection highlights the legacies of both stars and, at the same time, reflects adidas’ deep influence in culture.
Mutual Admiration
Bad Bunny has long admired Messi, often referencing the soccer legend in his music. In fact, Messi has shown his appreciation for the Puerto Rican artist by including seven of Bad Bunny’s tracks in his pre-game playlist. Their collaboration, therefore, symbolizes a deep respect and shared influence. As ambassadors of adidas, they consistently push the boundaries of both music and soccer through their creative work.
A Nod to adidas Heritage
The Bad Bunny & Messi Collection draws inspiration from adidas’ archives. It features two of the brand’s most iconic silhouettes—the adidas Gazelle and the adidas F50 cleat. The F50, which Messi wore throughout his career, is widely recognized as one of the best soccer cleats. On the other hand, the Gazelle, originally designed for indoor soccer, has since become a lifestyle favorite and is also a personal favorite of Bad Bunny.
Both models celebrate Messi’s achievements with gold tones that represent his career highlights. In addition, blue accents connect to adidas’ heritage, and the ‘X’ stripe on the heel references Messi’s number 10 jersey. Each shoe also carries the signatures of Bad Bunny and Messi, reflecting their shared legacy. Furthermore, the inscription “Bad Bunny Para Messi” on the tongue adds a special personal touch.
A Cultural Moment
This collaboration goes beyond shoes—it celebrates the power of music and sport. adidas is launching a campaign alongside the collection that honors the millions of fans who have supported Bad Bunny and Messi. The campaign, in particular, centers on a letter created from real fan messages on social media. In the campaign’s short film, Messi and Bad Bunny read parts of this letter, expressing the deep connection they share with their fans.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Bad Bunny said, “Messi’s last name has become its own word, a synonym for greatness, courage, and heart. Watching him play with the passion he does is a privilege. I compare the love he feels for his country and his sport to the love I feel for music and Puerto Rico. Collaborating with him is an honor that so many people dream of and I never even imagined I could achieve it. Today, I feel so grateful to be able to represent our culture with the GOAT.”
Messi shared his thoughts, adding, “This campaign celebrates our fans. Seeing people who follow me and support me does more than just inspire me; it makes me feel very grateful. I always try to give everything I have on the pitch, so it’s great to see that there are people who appreciate that effort and always support me, even in bad times.” On the collaboration with Benito, he commented, “Music is connected to many aspects of my life, and Bad Bunny is an artist who is never missing from my playlist.”
