A Minimalist Vision for Nike Innovation
For this collaboration, Fujiwara revisits Nike’s newest footwear concepts through his understated design philosophy. His exclusive version of the Air Liquid Max features a sleek all-black finish, accented by subtle Fragment Concept Testing branding across the lateral upper. The silhouette builds on more than four decades of Air Max innovation while introducing a futuristic aesthetic.

Fujiwara explains that his interest in the project stems from Nike’s continued commitment to technological experimentation.
“I’ve always been interested in new technology and innovation, and when I had the opportunity to quietly preview several new Nike sneakers and hear about their concepts directly, Liquid Max and the Mind series immediately stood out,” he says. “Both Liquid Max and Nike Mind feel very much like ‘true Nike’ products in that sense.”
Exploring the Nike Mind Series
Fujiwara also applied his design language to the experimental Mind line. The Mind 001 mule arrives in a black colorway, highlighted by striking blue foam nodes that emphasize its unconventional form.

Meanwhile, the Mind 002 pushes the concept further. Fujiwara replaced the original upper with entirely new materials while maintaining the same black and blue palette, transforming the silhouette into something visually distinct from Nike’s original design.

“I approached the Nike Mind 002 from an experimental perspective — wondering what would happen if we combined it with completely different materials,” Fujiwara notes. “The result is almost an entirely different product.”
A Longstanding Partnership
The new Fragment Concept Testing releases continue a decades-long collaboration between Fujiwara and Nike. As a founding member of the influential HTM design collective, he helped shape some of the brand’s most sought-after collaborations, including reinterpretations of the Air Jordan 1, Nike Air Force 1, and Nike Dunk.

With the Air Liquid Max and the Mind series, Fujiwara once again demonstrates how experimental design and minimalism can coexist within Nike’s most forward-thinking innovations.
