Nike introduces its 2025 Ekiden Collection, paying tribute to Japan’s celebrated long-distance relay racers. This collection embodies the dedication and teamwork that define the ekiden spirit, a race deeply valued in Japanese sports culture. For over 30 years, Nike has worked closely with Japanese ekiden athletes, creating performance-focused designs for this intense event. This latest release combines high-performance footwear with stylish apparel inspired by the passion, legacy, and grit of ekiden.
A Lineup of Performance and Heritage
The 2025 Ekiden Collection includes four premier road-racing shoes: the Alphafly 3, Rival Fly 4, Vaporfly 3, and Zoom Fly 6. Designed to maximize speed and endurance, each model sports a flame graphic inspired by the Air Streak Spectrum Plus, a revered 2002 design from the Streak Series. This bold flame graphic symbolizes both the inner fire of ekiden racers and the torches that once guided them in night races. Each shoe also features Japanese kanji characters, honoring the race’s legacy and inspiring runners to reach new heights.

Nike’s collection extends beyond footwear, with lifestyle items that match the racing designs. The Windrunner jacket and long-sleeve T-shirt feature the same fiery motifs, blending performance with iconic style. This lineup not only prepares runners for race day but also keeps them inspired in training.

“Let Your Fire Run” – Celebrating Ekiden’s Challenge
Nike’s “Let Your Fire Run” campaign showcases the demanding journey of ekiden training. Highlighting top university athletes from Chuo, Komazawa, Tokai, and Toyo, the campaign emphasizes the grit needed to succeed. In ekiden, preparation is intense, and racers must push themselves through challenging cycles. The new Ekiden Collection helps them tap into their potential with performance-driven designs that fuel their passion.
Kosuke Ishida from Toyo University shared his excitement: “Ekiden is a race where your gear attracts attention. Running in distinctive shoes motivates you to push your limits. This year’s flame design really gets me fired up for the race.” With options for each training phase—from the Rival Fly for lighter runs to the Vaporfly and Alphafly for race day—the collection fully supports runners in their journey to victory.
